… and it’s fun I must confess!

THIS… IS… SPARTA!!!!!
I have finished one week of training and I can already see my strength increasing and my body is changing. There is definitely more definition going on and I’m gaining muscle mass. Cool.
I’m following the Beast 28-day Plan and they are HARD. My energy levels are low after workouts, so I have to increase those calories! I’m also choosing to up my carbohydrate intake to help my muscles. These workouts require a different kind of endurance from marathons. What I like best about these workouts is that they include running, so I can train for my ultramarathon, too. I was really worried about that when I started. Yesterday cleared all of my fears, however.
Yesterday’s workout was a simulated Beast course:
- Jog 5% – 1 mile (7 RPE)
- 4 Rounds of Monkey Bars
- Run 0% Incline -2 miles (7 RPE)
- Lunges – x10 each leg
- Run 5% – 1 mile (7 RPE)
- 10 Bear Crawl (each leg) up hill/ up stairs/ incline
- Walk 15% Incline with pancake/ bucket – 1/2 mile (7 RPE)
- Walk/ Jog 15% Incline without weight – ½ mile (7 RPE)
- 10 Pull Ups
- Run 10% Incline – 1 mile (7 RPE)
- 3 Rounds of Side Monkey Bars/ 10 Grip Release Hang
- Run 7.5% – 1 mile (7 RPE)
- 10 Hanging Leg Raise
- Run 5% – 1 mile (7 RPE)
- 100 yard Farmers Carry
- Jog 15% – 1 mile
- 10 Pancake Lateral Slam
- Run 0% – 2 mile ( 7 RPE)
- 10 Burpees
- Run – 1 mile (7 RPE)
Count the miles and I ran just shy of a half marathon. Yes! I got my miles in this week and trained for a Spartan.

Which game is this from? Huh? Huh?
I’m a little beat today, but I’ll get in Day 8 after the Jaguar game. Maybe during the game. Who knows? All I know is that I’m having fun! (Shout out to my friend, Sandy Ilog, for convincing me to do this. It only took years to get me to say yes!)
Are you training, or have completed a Spartan course? How does it compare to running? Do you have any suggestions for me? Let me know in the comments below! Until then…. happy running and… With it or on it… From this mode of life, my friends, we reap a harvest of liberty! For Sparta! For ‘Murica!
